How I Made $10K from One Instagram Reel: My Exact Strategy (Step by Step)

By Rachel Pedersen

One Reel. $10K. Zero cringe tactics.

No, I’m not about to tell you to do some weird trending dance (I’ll leave that to my 12-year-old niece).

This was all about a real system – one that turned a tiny burst of visibility into actual money in the bank.

If you’ve ever wondered if one Reel can do more than just snag you some algorithm points, stick around.

Here’s the step-by-step of how I did it – no fluff, no sugarcoating, just the juicy stuff.

Step 1: Nail the Hook – No Filler Allowed

I didn’t ramble. I didn’t preamble. I came in hot.
“I grew 90,000+ followers in 6 months.”
No half-hearted intros, no “Hey guys!”
Just: here’s what I did, here’s why you should care.

And yeah, I’m a talker (you know this), but here’s the real talk:
If your first 3 seconds are fluff, your Reel’s dead in the water.
So I treated that Reel like a shot of espresso – short, punchy, gets you out of your seat.

Step 2: Clear (Not Cute) Call to Action

You wanna see people do something, not just watch.
So I paired the Reel with a micro-CTA:
“Comment ‘GROW’ and I’ll send you my free 0-100K Instagram Growth Blueprint.”

Simple.
No “maybe kinda if you’re interested.”
Just a direct line: you want this? Here’s how.

Grab the same freebie that did the heavy lifting

Step 3: Let Automation Handle the First Connection

Look – I’m all about the personal touch, but I’m not about to manually DM 300 people at 2 a.m.

That’s where ManyChat comes in. It handled every “GROW” comment, sending them the free guide while I slept like a baby.

I don’t care if you’re a one-person show or a team of 10 – save your energy for the big stuff. Let the robots handle the first “Hey, here’s the link.”

Step 4: Don’t Phone It In with Your Freebie

Let’s get one thing straight:
A freebie isn’t a brochure. It’s the first proof you can actually help.
So I made sure my 0-100K Blueprint didn’t feel like a half-baked appetizer. It was a real, meaty roadmap of how I got that growth – the same way I would share it with a client paying me 4 figures.

If you’re gonna give something away for free, make it good enough they’d pay for it.
(And if you’re thinking, “Wait… but it’s free!” Yeah. That’s why it works.)

Step 5: Keep the Conversation Going – Not the Pitch

I didn’t stop at sending the freebie and calling it a day.
I sent five emails (through automation) – no spammy stuff, no manipulative scarcity.

These emails were more like coffee chats:

  • Email 1: “Here’s how to use this freebie to get results – fast.”
  • Email 2: “Here’s where I used to spin my wheels, and how I fixed it.”
  • Email 3: “You don’t need to post every day or go viral.”
  • Email 4: “Here’s how my system works so you’re not guessing anymore.”
  • Email 5: “Ready to actually do this? Here’s how to get my help.”

They weren’t lectures. They were invitations.

Step 6: The Paid Offer – No Pressure, Just Real Value

Here’s the piece everyone wants to skip to: how the $10K came in.
The paid offer was the IG Beta Program – $98.
I didn’t mention it in the Reel.
I didn’t even mention it in the first email.

I let the freebie and the emails do the warming up, so by the time I mentioned the IG Beta Program, it felt like a natural next step – not a leap.

If you’re wondering how to get people to say yes to your paid offer, here’s the truth:
They have to feel like they already trust you before you mention the price.
That trust doesn’t come from “high-energy” sales tactics – it comes from delivering real help, early and often.

Step 7: One Reel is Just the Spark

Let’s be real: that Reel didn’t do everything.
It got people in the door.
The freebie kept them around.
The emails built the trust.
The paid offer was the no-brainer next move.

That’s the part people miss.
They see a Reel get views and think, “Okay, where’s my payday?”
But the real money? That’s in the system that follows.

What Actually Mattered (and What Didn’t)

Here’s what didn’t matter:

  • Fancy transitions in the Reel
  • Spending hours editing
  • Posting every single day

Here’s what did:

  • Saying something people cared about
  • Making the next step dead simple
  • Keeping it honest and useful

And because I know you’re wondering:

No, I didn’t run ads.
No, I didn’t “boost” the post.
This was pure organic traffic – because it was built on solving a real problem in a way that actually felt helpful.

What I’d Tell You If We Were Talking Over Coffee

If you’re thinking, “Could I really do this?” – let me tell you what I wish someone had told me when I was stuck in content-creation purgatory:

  • Don’t overthink your first Reel.
  • Stop treating it like your only chance to go viral.
  • Start thinking of it as the start of a conversation.
  • Keep the next step so clear that no one’s confused about what to do next.

And if you mess up your first few Reels? Good. Now you know what not to do next time.

The Social Clique – Where I Take This Deeper

Want to know the difference between people who get 10K from a Reel and those who… don’t?

They’ve got a system, but also a community that helps them tweak it, test it, and keep moving forward when they feel stuck.

That’s why I created The Social Clique – so you’re not just guessing what works.
You’re in a room with people who are doing the work – and doing it well.

No hype. No gatekeeping.
Just real strategies that have worked for me and 1,000s of other freelancers and business owners.

Your Cheat Sheet for Turning Reels into Revenue

  • Figure out what real problem you can solve.
  • Record a short Reel that cuts to the point.
  • Use a micro-CTA – clear, direct, obvious.
  • Automate that first DM so you’re not stuck in your inbox.
  • Make sure your freebie’s actually worth their time.
  • Use your emails to connect, not just sell.
  • Let the paid offer feel like the next natural step, not a sales trap.

One Last Thing (and the IG Beta Program)

This wasn’t about luck. It wasn’t about the algorithm blessing me. It was about having a plan – and showing up consistently enough to let it work.

And if you’re ready to put that plan into play for yourself, my IG Beta Program is where I’m showing it all in real time.

No fluff. No “just go viral” nonsense.
Just the frameworks, the content strategy, and the mindset shifts that took me from “hope this works” to $10K in a single Reel.

Helping freelancers & business owners to grow their business with social media
8figures in 8 years | Hay House Author

My dear clients, students, and friends. They say My dear clients, students, and friends.

They say the average person knows 300 people by name.

I swear I might know 13,000 of you by name, story, and personal relationship.

We’ve all grown together from across the globe amidst wars and worldwide strife as a community obsessed with learning how to bring GOOD through marketing.

We’ve learned…
grieved…
thrived...
cried...
laughed...
pulled all nighters of strategy and stories…

And so much more ❤️

It has been a wild, beautiful, and brilliant past 12 years serving you with marketing value and teachings, helping you achieve your goals, and hopefully inspiring you to pursue happiness and fulfillment.

In the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment (amongst other reasons), I am closing down my businesses and retiring from being “Rachel Pedersen”.

My heart has been craving time, space, and privacy… Long-term. Especially as I don’t know how my personal life will play out.

So much of me has been healing THROUGH this - and I have perfect clarity on what I want.

I’m ready to live a life NOT being a public figure on social media.

I’m ready to be a #2 marketing lead in someone else’s vision and company.

I’m ready for simple and happy for me and the kids… Focusing more on their time in the spotlight as they become incredible humans.

And today is the day 🫶

I will still write books (and share them) and occasionally pop in to share a new insight or value (plus we’ll do one final retirement sale - none of these programs will be sold again).

I am better because of the beauty from each of you. I am better because I have known you.

You have truly all made EVERY day an adventure. I am so grateful for each one of you.

Thank you for being you - please only change for the better of your lives and development ❤️‍🩹

Love you. Signing off, officially ✌️

Dolly Parton once said in an interview that she wr Dolly Parton once said in an interview that she wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day. ✨

I have thought about that contrast more than I care to admit. It says a lot about who she was and how she lived.

Because those two songs are opposites… and they both are her reclaiming her beautiful power (in different ways).

She wrote one of them from the top.

Leaving Porter Wagoner’s show. Walking away from the man who put her on television. Choosing to say goodbye kindly when she did not have to be kind about it at all.

She wrote the other one from the floor. No power. No plan. A woman asking another woman for mercy about her own husband.

Same day. All the power in one hand and none of it in the other.

But my favorite thing is that she didn’t just write them…

She released both. 🎀

She could have kept the vulnerable, scary one in a drawer. Nobody would have known.

She put it out anyway, and it became one of the most covered songs anybody has ever written.

That is how she lived the whole sixty years.

Heart on her sleeve. Song on her lips.

Never a version of herself she was too proud to let us see.

My people hide the ugly parts and messy bits away.

She didn’t. 🤍

So much love,
Rachel

She meant so much to so many of us. And man, she practiced what she preached ❤️🫶

I don’t have words to express how impactful her words, songs, and outlook on life have been for me over my life.

So I’ll allow your own words to reflect back to us the impact of your life.

My dream was to become RICH.

I wanted a better quality of life SO BADLY.

I want true freedom to CHOOSE...

After nearly 13 years of marriage, we are getting a divorce 💔

We made this decision together - it is not repairable.

A few of you knew something was happening. Thank you for respecting our privacy through these painful matters. I’m sharing this because we shared our relationship with you. I don’t want to lie or pretend like nothing is happening.

Poul is an amazing dad. We are raising the children together as partners 🙏

He’s also my best friend. Please please please do not attack him or assume about him through this. He’s the father of my children, so hurting him hurts me.

Please pray for Poul and the children. Pray for our families. Please pray for me for wisdom to know what to do next.
