Oh so you want to learn how to start social media marketing as a beginner in 2020? PERFECT. I got you.
I’m going to share how to begin social media marketing with no experience AND how to start social media marketing with no money. That’s right, no money.
If you want to make $30,000-$45,000 a year, you actually only need 3-5 clients. Crazy, right?!
Most people think that they need this massive clientele in a huge office and all of these crazy things, you actually only need 3-5 clients in order to make between $30,000-$45,000 a year per year.
I’m gonna break it all down, as well as the questions I get all the time:
Do I need experience to begin social media marketing?
Do I need money to begin social media marketing?
How do I find clients that are willing to pay me for the services that I provide?
How do I find my first client as a social media manager?
How do I find my first client as a social media manager?
First you’re gonna find businesses who need support with their social media.
One of the ways you can find potential clients is to identify businesses who social media presences aren’t up to par.
That could include their Facebook page, their Twitter, their Instagram profile. It could include LinkedIn, it could be their YouTube channel, it could even be their Google reviews.
How do you know if a company needs a little bit of help?
Well, you’ve seen Facebook pages that are doing a great job. You’ve seen Twitter accounts like Wendy’s and Burger King and different social media accounts that are thriving.
They’re interacting, they’re putting content out.
A good social media manager essentially puts out great content and gives personality to a business on social media.
How do I find clients that are willing to pay me for the services that I provide?
One of the most common issues that small businesses have is that they don’t quite have a massive budget to bring in an entire marketing person, but they know that they need to be on social media because they see their competitors on social media.
They wish that they had the time to post.
They don’t know what to post and to be totally honest, they’re focusing on their zone of genius (which might be hairstyling or being an awesome doctor).
Business owners who run their own business don’t always specialize in marketing but they’ve probably heard from colleagues, friends, mentors that they need support in social media.
The market is wide open for social media managers right now.
In fact, a QUICK Google search finds 49,757 social media marketing jobs available on Indeed.com, 33,687 jobs on GlassDoor, 61,664 social media marketing specialist jobs, 38,000 and (and it goes on) social media marketing jobs on LinkedIn. It’s crazy cause that wasn’t even a deep dive.
There are hundreds of thousands of businesses that are currently, actively looking for help in social media.
Do I need experience to begin social media marketing?
When I got started as a social media manager, I did not have a formal marketing degree.
Actually, I didn’t have any real experience as a marketer.
I was working as a hairstylist.
A client came in one day and she said that her and her husband owned a company – and they needed help with social media.
My thought process was this, “I may not be an expert in social media, but in this moment I can be an expert to her in this moment. And then they became my very first client!
The key to getting started is recognizing that you do not have to be an expert. You just have to be an expert to someone else.
Do I need money to begin social media marketing?
Possibly one of my favorite things about becoming a social media manager is that you do not have to have any money to get started.
That’s right.
You do not need an office, a business card, a website. You don’t need a team.
There’s essentially no overhead, which can make it an incredibly profitable business. That’s why I was so excited about building my business as a social media manager.
