If I Had to Make an Extra $2500 This Month from Home, Here’s What I’d Do

By Rachel Pedersen

Let’s say the pressure’s on.

Maybe rent’s coming. Maybe your savings are looking real thin. Maybe you’ve got a credit card balance staring at you like it wants to fight.

If I needed to make $2,500 from home this month… and fast… I wouldn’t start a blog. I wouldn’t go viral. I wouldn’t wait around for “passive income” to start passively flowing in.

I’d land 1-3 freelance clients.

Not glamorous. Not groundbreaking. But extremely effective.

And I know it works… because my students have done it again and again, across every niche you can imagine. Social media managers. Content creators. Virtual assistants. Short-form video editors. Copywriters. You name it.

So here’s exactly what I’d do to bring in $2,500 (and potentially a whole new income stream while I’m at it).

STEP 1: Pick ONE clear, sellable freelance offer

Not five. One.

This is where a lot of people get stuck… they want to offer “everything,” hoping something sticks.

But clarity sells. Always.

If you can solve a clear problem for a specific person… you’re halfway there.

Some examples of $2.5K-ready freelance offers:

  • 2 Reels per week + caption writing for small biz IG accounts
  • Weekly newsletters for coaches or online educators
  • Daily TikTok creation for digital product businesses
  • Pinterest account setup + 30 optimized pins
  • Podcast editing + show notes for 4 episodes/month
  • Full-service VA support for 10 hours a week

Your goal: Pick ONE package that you can charge $850-$1250 for. Sell 2-3 of those. That’s your $2.5K.

Not sure what to offer? Grab my Top 1% Freelancer Bundle… with 80 ideas, client-getting scripts, and high-ticket strategies that actually work: https://rachelpedersen.clickfunnels.com/opt-in1646925736690

STEP 2: Package it up like a pro

People don’t buy services… they buy outcomes.

Your offer needs to be positioned in a way that shows:

  • What the client gets
  • What problem it solves
  • Why it’s valuable
  • Why it’s priced that way

Try this simple formula:

“I help [type of client] with [result/outcome] by doing [your service] so they can [desired goal].”

Example:
“I help coaches grow their Instagram audience and attract clients by creating high-converting Reels, so they can stay in their zone of genius.”

Once you’ve got your offer:

  • Name it (yes, even services can have names… this boosts perceived value)
  • List the deliverables clearly
  • Set a flat rate (no hourly nonsense here)
  • Bonus if you can add social proof or testimonials

STEP 3: Reach out (without sounding desperate)

No… you don’t need to cold pitch 1,000 people. But you do need to get visible, fast.

When I was first freelancing, I didn’t sit back and wait for clients. I got strategic. My students do the same… and here’s how they consistently find clients without paid ads or a giant audience:

High-converting, low-effort ways to find clients:

  1. DM 10 ideal clients a day (with value, not just “Hey! Need help?”)
  2. Reconnect with past leads or warm contacts
  3. Search Facebook groups (type in: “looking for [your service]”)
  4. Post case studies or “before and afters” from past work
  5. Use “I have 2 spots” language on stories/posts
  6. List your offer on job boards like Contra, Workello, or Upwork (strategically)
  7. Use ManyChat or Flodesk to auto-respond to IG comments with your freebie/offer

Use the 80 Ways to Find a Client guide. My students call it their “client Bible” and it’s helped thousands lock in their first (or next) $1K-$10K: https://rachelpedersen.clickfunnels.com/rachel-80-ways

STEP 4: Send them somewhere

What happens after someone’s interested?

This is where most freelancers lose the sale… there’s no next step. You need one:

  • A simple landing page that outlines the offer
  • A short application (3-5 questions max)
  • A booking link for a discovery call
  • A PDF services guide or one-pager
  • Even a Google Doc with clear info and a Stripe link works in a pinch

Don’t overthink it. Make it easy to say yes.

And if you’re using a lead magnet to drive interest (like a free IG growth guide, pricing sheet, or niche checklist), set up a basic email funnel that builds trust while they warm up to hiring you.

Want the exact system I use to turn freebie sign-ups into paying clients? Use my 24 Hour Content Machine and plug into a done-for-you lead-to-client flow: https://rachelpedersen.clickfunnels.com/24-hour-content-machine

STEP 5: Close the sale like a real business owner

Here’s what I wish more freelancers knew:

You’re not begging for work… you’re offering a solution.

Confidence (even if slightly faked at first) closes deals.

When you get on a discovery call or send a proposal, remember:

  • It’s a two-way interview
  • Your time is valuable
  • The client is lucky you’re even available

Simple tips that increase your close rate:

  • Lead the call like a coach or consultant, not a job candidate
  • Ask questions that uncover their pain points and goals
  • Reframe your price as an investment in their growth
  • Clearly outline next steps and timelines
  • Send a clean, professional proposal… fast

This is the kind of stuff I mentor on inside The Social Clique… because your talent deserves to be paid (and paid well). If you’re done playing small and ready for real strategy and support? Get in here: www.cliqueforlife.com

STEP 6: Deliver a win fast

After you land the client, don’t go MIA.

Deliver a small win in the first 48-72 hours… even if it’s just:

  • A roadmap
  • A strategy doc
  • A content audit
  • A welcome video

It builds trust, reduces ghosting, and makes you referable.

Because here’s the thing: Getting a client is great.

Turning that client into:

  • A retainer?
  • A referrer?
  • A raving testimonial machine?

That’s where the $2.5K turns into consistent, repeatable income.

FINAL THOUGHTS

$2,500 in 30 days isn’t just possible.

I’ve watched thousands of my students do it with:

  • No degrees
  • No audience
  • No fancy websites
  • No ads

Just a clear offer, a real strategy, and the willingness to show up.

You don’t need to have it all figured out.

You just need one offer. One client. One win.

And from there… it snowballs.

Dolly Parton once said in an interview that she wr Dolly Parton once said in an interview that she wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day. ✨

I have thought about that contrast more than I care to admit. It says a lot about who she was and how she lived.

Because those two songs are opposites… and they both are her reclaiming her beautiful power (in different ways).

She wrote one of them from the top.

Leaving Porter Wagoner’s show. Walking away from the man who put her on television. Choosing to say goodbye kindly when she did not have to be kind about it at all.

She wrote the other one from the floor. No power. No plan. A woman asking another woman for mercy about her own husband.

Same day. All the power in one hand and none of it in the other.

But my favorite thing is that she didn’t just write them…

She released both. 🎀

She could have kept the vulnerable, scary one in a drawer. Nobody would have known.

She put it out anyway, and it became one of the most covered songs anybody has ever written.

That is how she lived the whole sixty years.

Heart on her sleeve. Song on her lips.

Never a version of herself she was too proud to let us see.

My people hide the ugly parts and messy bits away.

She didn’t. 🤍

So much love,
Rachel

My dream was to become RICH.

I wanted a better quality of life SO BADLY.

Becoming rich felt like the only way to make it happen.

Now I’m a single mom of 3... 💔

After nearly 13 years of marriage, we are getting a divorce 💔

We made this decision together - it is not repairable.

A few of you knew something was happening. Thank you for respecting our privacy through these painful matters. I’m sharing this because we shared our relationship with you. I don’t want to lie or pretend like nothing is happening.

Poul is an amazing dad. We are raising the children together as partners 🙏

This is uncontested and amicable. We are not fighting.

He’s also my best friend. Please please please do not attack him or assume about him through this. He’s the father of my children, so hurting him hurts me.

We will only be sharing the full story as needed to navigate our next steps.

Please pray for Poul and the children. Pray for our families. Please pray for me for wisdom to know what to do next.

My heart is beyond broken. His is as well.

But my feet are underneath me, and I have a clear vision of the path I need to take for our children ❤️ their lives and futures above all now.

By referral only — this one is close to our hearts By referral only — this one is close to our hearts. 🫶

Poul H. Pedersen and I are looking for a Household Manager for our family home near Lake Minnetonka: someone who loves making a space beautiful, orderly, and calm, and who genuinely enjoys helping a family run well.

I’ll be honest about why this is referral-only. We’re a family first, and our children’s lives are private. Letting someone into our home means letting them into our world — so trust and discretion matter to us just as much as skill. The right person will understand that instinctively, and hold our family’s privacy the way they’d want their own held.

Here’s what the role looks like day to day:

- Coordinating home services and keeping everything running smoothly — groceries, systems, the hundred small things
- Building processes that make life lighter, and adapting them intuitively as you learn how we live
- Light cleaning and tidying, and cooking
- Driving the kids and being a steady, caring presence when Poul or I travel
- Helping care for our children — you’re not here to be mom or dad, but you’re important in helping us raise them
- Holding short-term tasks and projects while keeping an eye on the long game

What we’re really looking for is a person, more than a résumé: someone adaptable, nurturing, and calm — the kind of steady that can carry a lot at once without losing their warmth. Someone who listens for the details, takes good notes, and reads a moment well. And someone who understands that when we’re with family, I’m simply mom and wife. 🫶

A few practical notes:
- Reliable transportation to the Lake Minnetonka area of Minnesota is a must
- Ideally 3–5 days a week
- Compensation is discussed individually, candidate by candidate
- Interviews are by invitation

If someone you love and trust comes to mind, I’d be so grateful for the introduction. ❤️
