Is TikTok Good for Boutiques and Clothing Stores?

By Rachel Pedersen

CREATING CONTENT FOR YOUR BOUTIQUE IN TIKTOK

I know, I’ve been talking a lot about TikTok lately! While I may be slightly addicted to the platform and how fun it is to create these videos…

I’ve also discovered how valuable this platform is to business owners!

Knowing how to utilize TikTok effectively can be a game changer for your boutique. Whether you are B2B or e-commerce, one thing is certain, you need traffic to and eyes on your boutique.

Tik Tok is similar to other platforms in that any piece of content has the ability to go viral.

Now you don’t actually have to go viral to increase sales significantly in your boutique with this platform, but clearly, it’s super cool to go viral so why not play around with it and have some fun!

With approximately 800 million active users worldwide, TikTok is growing fast. So if you’ve been watching but haven’t dipped your creative toes in yet, there’s no time like the present!

Here’s some super easy ways to help get you started on creating content for TikTok if you are a boutique owner!

INFLUENCER & USER GENERATED CONTENT

Having an influencer to promote your boutique & products can draw a lot of eyes to your page quickly!

Their accounts typically have mass followers and their posts have tons of hearts (TikTok’s version of likes) which equals more eyes and more exposure for YOUR boutique!

It’s an awesome feeling when clients share their love and appreciation for your company & products and even more rewarding when they share their positive experience with others.

When they share their latest purchase with their audience online, your boutique can reach a lot of people very quickly.

Influencer and user generated content is a simple and effective way to create some major social cred for your business and grow your following and clientele.

Existing and new clients are also a great source of content for your biz! Don’t be afraid to ask your clients to tag you in their post wearing their new outfit, shoes or carrying their latest handbag purchase. Let’s face it, we all love to share our favourite products with our friends and referrals are four times more likely to become customers.

Checkout this user generated content by @kendallbmayes. Here she mentions the names of her favourite boutiques and brands for cute clothes using text prompts in her TikTok video!

I love that she even drops a coupon code in the description, giving people yet another reason to check out your boutique!

There are lots of advantages to influencer and user generated content.

✨ When they tag your business in their posts, it easily & quickly creates an entire  library of content for you to use for your brand

✨  Clients are more likely to buy when someone they know, like and trust refers them

✨ Higher engagement and reach

✨ Your content could go viral

✨ It’s free advertising for your boutique

With approximately 800 million active users worldwide, you are bound to find the right audience, users and influencers to connect with and promote your boutique!

DIY CONTENT

You and your staff or team can create content & videos by yourself anywhere anytime anyplace!

Whether you are in your actual boutique, behind the scenes going about your day, there’s always an opportunity to create something fun, new and effective for your audience.

Showcase your space, your products and your promotions. Videos that showcase your brands’ identity are often more engaging than the more formal sales tactics.

Get creative, give your audience a behind the scenes tour, show them what’s on sale, show them the latest trends, there’s no limits to what you can share with your audience!

Here’s a fun example of how one boutique owner @blushingbrunetteboutique got eyes on multiple outfits in one short video and gained a whole lotta hearts!

She uses a coupon code for her boutique as well in the comments. Who doesn’t love a deal am I right?

Generally speaking, most people are visual, so show them why they absolutely need to shop with you and what makes your boutique and products unique!

REPURPOSED CONTENT

You’ve likely already created a ton of valuable content for your boutique on other platforms.

Often this content can be repurposed into new content on TikTok.

Perhaps you’ve already written a blog post about one of your favourite designers, just grab the main points from that post and turn it into a video for the TikTok platform!

Have a YouTube channel? You can upload snippets of those videos and create something entirely new in TikTok!

My bets are you have a ton of existing content that can be repurposed here where you can reach an entirely new audience and be omnipresent with your existing audience.

So don’t wait to get started, if you need content ideas fast, start with your existing work and go from there!

All in all, there’s no shortage of content or inspiration to get started on TikTok!

One of the coolest things I like about the TikTok app is that you don’t have to be perfect and you don’t have to be good at singing or dancing to get eyes on your videos and products. Literally anyone can do this!

People want to see real people, so just be you!

So be an early adopter, show up, get creative and have fun with it!

As with any platform, if you stay true to your brand and your mission statement while sharing the lighter side of what you do, you can’t go wrong.

Boutiques have some really great potential in TikTok!

One comment can absolutely throw off your whole mo One comment can absolutely throw off your whole mood.

That does not mean you are fragile.
It means you are a person with a nervous system and a phone and a business and eyeballs.

Very normal.

The part that matters is what you do next.

Because the second you read something rude, your brain gets loud fast.

Your chest tightens.
Your fingers get fast.
And suddenly you are writing a full legal brief in your head like this stranger has personally been chosen for your closing argument.

I get it.

But reacting and leading are not the same thing.

Reacting is about relief.
Leading is about control.

And if you answer from the spike, it usually does two things:
makes the room feel weird
and leaves you feeling gross after

No win there.

Also, not every comment deserves the same energy.

Some people are confused.
Some are projecting.
Some are bored and using your comment section like a hobby.

Those are different.

So before you reply, ask yourself what is actually happening here.

Is this a real objection my quiet buyers might have too?
Is this my person, or just a random drive by with Wi Fi and opinions?
Is there something useful to clarify for the people reading without saying a word?

That is the shift.

Do not defend for the sake of defending.
Diagnose for the sake of the audience.

If somebody says, “this is stupid, this won’t work,” you do not need to perform confidence.

You can just say:
Totally fair question. What part feels unrealistic to you?

That response does a lot.

It slows the temperature down.
It makes the other person get specific.
And it shows the rest of the room that you are not rattled just because someone coughed in your direction.

Same thing with the classic “you’re just trying to sell.”

Okay.
And?

You can answer that without getting weird.

Clarity is not manipulation.
An offer is not a crime.
And calm does not mean passive.

So today, pick your move:
ignore the noise
ask one clean question
or turn the objection into content and help the people quietly watching

That is leadership.

Let me know if this hit the right side of IG 🤣 whe Let me know if this hit the right side of IG 🤣 where my PKs at?!

That heat round of public criticism (and private) was next level compared to social media hate.

Poul is a missionaries kid too haha!
I buy my own mockingbird (and then teach others ho I buy my own mockingbird (and then teach others how to buy theirs).

Creating high-performing content doesn’t require 4 hours, a ring light, and a meltdown 😭

This is the exact system I use to batch a full month of video in 30 minutes - even on low-energy days.

And I’ll share it with you FOR FREE - comment VIDEOS below!!!

If I lost it all tomorrow no followers, no list, n If I lost it all tomorrow
no followers, no list, no proof, no cute little receipts to point at

I would not waste a week trying to look established.

That is where people lose so much time.

They try to look polished first.
Professional first.
Credible first.

And meanwhile nobody knows they exist.

No thank you.

If I had to rebuild, I would get visible immediately.

Short form video.
Raw.
Hook first.
Saying something real.
Not waiting until the lighting is flattering and the brand voice is having a good hair day.

Because the invisible stage is not the stage to over-style.

It is the prove it stage.
The rocky montage stage.
The “say something useful before your fear talks you out of it” stage.

And yes, the panic would absolutely try to jump in.

It would say:
you’re behind
you’re doomed
you had your shot

Cool.
Very dramatic.
But wrong.

Because sometimes losing the old version is not doom.
It is freedom.

No stale identity to protect.
No old audience to keep happy.
No pressure to keep performing as the version of you that built the first thing.

Just data.
Movement.
Rebuild.

So week one?

I would post daily.
I would repeat the hooks that hit.
I would build a tiny freebie before it was ready and let it be a little embarrassing.
Mine have been ugly before too. Still worked.

Because followers with no list is just noise with good lighting.

I would rather have 73 people on an email list who actually care than a pile of views and no way to catch them.

And yes, I would manually DM the link if I had to.
Like it is 2016.
Like I have bills.
Like I am not above doing what works before it looks impressive.

I do not need a head start.

I need a plan.
And I would make one fast.
