Is TikTok Good for Food Bloggers and Food Businesses?

By Rachel Pedersen

Let me share with you my current favorite social platform – TikTok – and how any one of us can easily use food to create content to grow our audiences.

What is Tik Tok?

TikTok is an app with a social platform that is home to short talent videos – anywhere from lip syncing, comedy, choreography, or really any topic. The app itself helps you create and edit videos effortlessly while sharing them on their internal platform. It was founded in China in 2012 and has been a hit ever since. It’s not surprising that this platform has been one of the fastest growing social platforms since it hit international markets in 2017.

Why Food?

Food does really well on social media because it can look physically appealing, with beautiful colors and plating, making it extra delicious. Not only can it give you an appetite, but it can inspire you to try new dishes and cook (which is a lost art, if you ask me!).

This platform is fun and revolutionary, especially if you are in the food business.

This is phenomenal for anyone from restaurant owners, foodie or recipe bloggers, personal chefs, cookbook authors, or any food lover who wants to share their passion for everything edible.

Imagine sharing your entire recipe blog in a short, fun 15-60 second video. People love quick, consumable content, especially if they learn something and feel inspired at the same time. They love seeing the process, the behind-the-scenes, the ingredients – the entire step-by-step process. Often times, it’s more convenient to watch a short 15-60 second video than spending time reading a recipe blog.

Showcasing the entire cooking process from beginning to end – preparation, method, and plating – in less than a minute, is a great way to pique interest and grow your audience. You can then send them to your full-form recipe blog/vlog, the new restaurant in town, or even a lead magnet – wherever you’d like to funnel them to next.

I have been on TikTok since February of 2019 and in just one short year I grew my account to over 111k followers and over 1.4mil likes – that’s over 10,000 new followers and 100,000 likes a month! It has helped me generate thousands of dollars already – What are you waiting for?!
