I remember just a few years ago, when somebody brought up the Facebook pixel…
And, well. I was SO confused. ????????????
A pixel??? What does that mean??
I mean, sure I had heard about pixels and I’m sure you have too – as it relates to graphic design or website design, but what does a pixel have to do with Facebook ads??? ????
The Facebook Pixel: What Is It and Do I Need One?
Alright, the Facebook pixel is kind of a confusing thing. (okay – maybe very confusing)
I think a lot of people don’t exactly understand what the pixel does.
Basically the pixel is literally a line of code – it’s something that you can put on your website, you can put it into a funnel.
The Facebook ad pixel is essentially a one by one pixel legitimately – just like in design that you put into your website code.
“What does it do though?” Well it allows you to basically track EVERYBODY who visits certain pages or all the pages on your website!!!
THE BEST PART – it allows you to capture your audience, grab their attention down the road, you can even re-market to them!!!
If you’ve never heard of RE-marketing – it means to serve more marketing to somebody who has already engaged with something, for example, visiting your website.
The other great thing about the pixel is you’re able to create similar audiences, which are called custom audiences, and almost re-market to them BUT THEN create an inflated version of that audience.
Let’s say 500 people visit your website.
You now have the ability with the pixel to take that audience and find the percentage of our nation that is the most like them, or of ANY country you want… ????????????
Kind of (really) powerful.
The other thing that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about the pixel is that now you have the ability to track metrics and actually find the ROI (return on investment) of your Facebook advertising or of the ancillary benefits of Facebook advertising…SAY WHATTT
So yeah. The pixel IS really powerful.
Even if you don’t plan on running Facebook ads today for yourself, or for your clients – MAKE SUREEE your website is loaded up with your pixel so that you’re ready for anything that comes in the future.
So to recap:
- you need a pixel.
- you need a pixel, and
- you need a pixel.
