So this one is for everyone who has been living under a stone and doesn’t know TikTok!
No, I am just kidding. People ask me all the time what TikTok is, and if they should be using it. And as I am the TikTok expert, I would love to tell you everything about it!

Since day one, I adore TikTok. It captives me. I’m having so much fun with it. I am using it for marketing and growing a raving following.

Rachel, What Is TikTok ?
So first things first, TikTok is an app you can download ONLY on your phone. Before, it was the platform Music.ly, which they rebranded as TikTok. It is like a short-form mobile video app. You can record videos of 15 seconds, up to 60 seconds.
This platform is exciting as here people are growing fast. And no, TikTok is not only for kids. A lot of teen and college-age users are using the app; about 66% are under the age of 30. So that means that 1/3 of its users are 30+! In my experience, active hashtags are #MomLife, #MomOfThree, and #WorkingMom. Then I get to see video content from Millennials between 20 and 30.
In 2019, data and demographics showed that the app is in 154 countries and has 500 million active users. It has consistently been in the top 10 most downloaded apps in the App store!

The power of TikTok
Now. Why is it that people love TikTok? What is it about TikTok that’s keeping people on this app? Keeping them excited and want to spend 61 minutes a day on TikTok and be crazy about it?
It’s the fact that people are craving authenticity and connection. They want to see behind the scenes of brands; they want to know the truth. Not only the manufactured, the advertising, and the Photoshopping. But everything that’s behind that. People want to see more.
If you can show people behind the scenes of the products they are buying, what it’s like to be an attorney, the truth of how you place Facebook ad campaigns, or even how celebrities look without make up… The more you can show them, the more the mystery that makes people nervous, fades away.
And that is what TikTok does. It shows authenticity, which leads to a connection.
The biggest reason I love TikTok
So, why I love TikTok is that this platform came in, and it filled the gap from overly produced content on a lot of platforms, to not super produced. The vulnerable, real, not overly fabricated content is so refreshing! We, consumers, have been craving for this! We don’t want to be marketed to 24/7; we don’t want to feel like we are just wallets walking around. We want to feel like humans and like brands have humans behind them. We want realness, and so that is something I’ve fallen in love with TikTok.
