My husband Poul and I are watching Grey’s Anatomy from the BEGINNING. I haven’t watched it for the last decade (and when I did, I was an alcoholic – so I don’t really remember any of it).
Oh my gosh, this show is messing with my emotions…
(In case you don’t watch it – here’s the recap… The main character, Meredith has a PERFECT boyfriend named Derek – but everyone calls him McDreamy. Suddenly, unbenounced to Meredith, his WIFE Addison shows up…. Meredith didn’t even know he was married)
After Derek seems to be torn between two women – Addison (who cheated on him) and Meredith (who is his new love) – Meredith hits a point where she loses it and BEGS Derek.
Below is her monologue:
Meredith: “Okay here it is. Your choice. It’ s simple. Her or me. And I’m sure she’ s really great. But Derek, I love you, in a really, really big – pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window – unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me. Choose me. Love me.”
And he walks away.
Derek walks away and chooses Addison.
And cue the tears – I bawled.
How could he choose Addison – who BETRAYED HIM over Meredith who would let him eat the last piece of cheesecake?!
You see, Addison was calm, cool, collected, sensual, and reminded him of what he had once wanted.
Meredith was cold calling an old customer asking them to come back.
Addison MARKETED herself better – like a true inbound marketer – making Derek want her.
But the same thing is true every single day for so many business owners and freelancers.
They’re presenting to potential clients and customers begging and pleading them to ‘PICK me, CHOOSE me, HIRE me’.
But they’re going with the other guy. The other option. The other company.
