This post has been years in the making…
THE BACKSTORY:
For years my daughter Dakota and I shared 1 bedroom from various houses (including renting 1 room in a co-ed house of people in college). I just couldn’t afford more – and she usually ended up sleeping in my single bed with me.
Almost 6 years ago Poul and I met and got married – Dakota and I moved into the house he rented with 3 other roommates.
Quickly the roommates moved out – and soon the house was all our home to raise our family. My dad moved in, too (I think he’s gonna be our roomie for life).
5 years ago – Delilah was born. She’s like strawberries and sunshine with a sassy streak. We decided to raise our 2 beautiful daughters in this house we’ve called home.
4 years ago – I started my business – terrified, uncertain, but determined.
3.5 years ago – I left my 9-5 – after I replaced my income with social media clients.
3 years ago – I retired Poul from his 9-5 after hitting a $10,000 month with client work. He thought he was gonna have a life of golf, relaxation, and mojitos. I kinda tricked him – because now he works full-time as a partner in the businesses ????
2.5 years ago – we lost a baby – and realized our family was missing something. We got pregnant the next week.
2 years ago – we got our puppy, Dixie. The most gentle, patient, loyal golden-doodle ever. She’s not a dog. She’s family.
1.5 years ago – Dominic was born. He’s a bulldog – so determined to learn, competitive, and strong… I caught him picking up my 8 pound dumbbell the other day!! Our family was complete.
As our in-person team began to grow (as well as our kids and dog) – we outgrew this 1200 square foot house…
It was a ton of work – because we knew that it wasn’t just ‘as simple’ as getting a house….
First we paid off all our debt. It was over $100k!!!
Then we worked to build our credit. It was baaaaaad. This took a while.
And we created a savings as a safety net. This helps me breathe every day.
We got the official YES – that we got the house that we will call home for the next chapter of our lives!!!
Much more space – a guest bedroom, and several offices so we can easily record, host meetings, and work without being all up in each others’ business.
I’m filled with gratitude.
Remember, no matter how long your dreams take, to never give them up!
