Have you ever wanted to go viral? Me too and I have for myself, on purpose, all about my small wedding ring.
But not only that, I have also gone viral for several of my clients helping them to achieve that massive dream that so many of us have.
Who doesn’t wanna be seen by millions of people? Oh, and for the record, virality has a very specific set of standards- reaching 10,000,000 people in one week or less.
So today, I’m sharing three of my top tips to going viral. I also have a bonus case study here, you are going to love.
How To Go Viral On Social Media
Don’t Focus On You, It’s Not About You
First, when it comes to wanting to go viral- is it’s not about you. Now of course there are exceptions to this, there are brands, there are products that go viral for their product or brand, but usually they have a pretty big, massive marketing department behind the scenes taking care of everything and chances are if you are watching this, that’s not you.
That’s okay, it wasn’t me either. It’s still kinda isn’t me, but that’s all right. So when it comes to going viral it’s not about you, so who’s it about?
It’s About Your Target Market
Number two, it’s about your target market.
Who do you wanna reach with this?
Who is the ultimate intended observer of your post, video, interaction, whatever is that you are putting out there into the world of social media?
Who needs to see it?
Now I want you to get really specific, toning out on a few things like:
Are they a male or a female?
How old are they?
What is their lifestyle like?
What do they believe?
But even bigger than that is my third point and this is one we’re gonna go a little bit deeper on.
Emotion
Third (and my favorite) part of crafting a post for virality is emotion.
Tapping into the emotions that your target market feels:
- What makes them laugh?
- What makes them cry?
- Will they want to share your post with a friend?
Those are the emotions that you want to tap into in order to go viral. Now remember nothing lukewarm goes viral, it has to be big.
Does it make them cry?
Does it make them laugh until they pee their pants?
Perfect, that is the right foundation for going viral. One of the things I want to be clear about, is that virality is not the only goal with marketing,
I’ve crafted a term, mini viral, which is another way of talking about the goals for your marketing. Maybe it’s to reach 10,000 people, maybe 100,000 is enough, so don’t be too hard on yourself, but don’t be scared to test things out.
Wrapping It Up
So to recap- my three favorite ways to go viral are:
- Don’t focus on you, it’s not about you
- Know your target market- who they are and what makes them tick.
- Tap into that emotion as you craft your post.
Don’t forget to grab your case study– I’ve broken down for you exactly what I did and what the result was, It’s pretty awesome I’m not going to lie.
So tell me in the comments, do you have a viral story? What would you like to know about going viral?
