The 4 E’s and how to go viral on TikTok
There are several ways to make TikToks that serve others. One way is the 4 Es model which includes: Emotion/Empathy, Engagement, Entertainment and Education. By including these aspects in your videos you can create content for a variety of demographics without having to shake your butt!
The 4 Es are:
- Entertainment
- Education
- Engagement
- Emotion
Entertainment is not the be-all and end all for social media. In order to truly connect with people, you need more than just likes and shares – you also need education on your brand’s products or services, engagement in regards to asking and answering questions by followers (and providing answers they can find quickly), as well as an emotional connection that makes them feel like part of a community.
Create a short TikTok video that is up to 60 seconds
Some of my favorite TikTok videos are those that show the human experience. I love watching people laughing, crying, and living their lives on camera for everyone to see. It is so interesting seeing what other people do when they’re not working or studying!
You can create trending or evergreen videos that are viewed for days, weeks, or even months after you create it!
You can use music, or use your own voice!
Add a caption that is short and describes who the TikTok video is for or what the video is about
Use captions to increase the TikTok video’s exposure on social media. A caption should be short and descriptive, like “Dancing with my cat.”
We all know how important captions are in order for someone else not following you on Instagram or Twitter who may come across your video without sound can still enjoy what they just saw! It isn’t always easy coming up with ideas for short descriptions that make sense though so here are few tips – pick one per caption:
- Explain who the video is for
- Explain what the video is about
- Give more backstory on the video
- Share a funny quote or joke
Fill the rest of the TikTok caption space with niched hashtags
With the text box on TikTok only being so big, it’s necessary to use hashtags to make your content more visible. Niched hashtags can help you get discovered by a larger audience and are worth using in order for people who share similar interests as yours will be able to find you!
People like to use hashtags on social media for a number of reasons. One reason is the link between them and what they are talking about, such as #family1st or #gopro. These indicators help others find their content more easily and give it an identity in relation with other similar posts which can lead into increased interaction rates!
Some people create unique captions that include both words from lyrics plus a hashtag only understood by themselves (#my3words). Others love creative phrases integrating double meanings making cryptic references difficult to decipher (e.g., “if bacon is life then I want my eggs scrambled”). The point being: using this strategy will make your post stand out among friends who have inundated timelines with generic hashtags.
Comment on other people’s TikTok videos if you like them, this will allow them to see your profile and follow you too!
Commenting on other people’s videos is a great way to get more exposure and followers. It also allows you to comment back, which can lead into interesting conversations with others who share the same interests as you!
You get what you put out there! The kind of engagement that is given to your content will come back in the form of more engagements on your own posts.
Be creative with what you post – try the trends you see on your “For You Page“
No matter what your interests are, you’ll find a TikTok trend that will get the creative juices flowing. If you’re into makeup tutorials or fashion inspiration, there’s an endless supply of content out there for every type of person. The app is also perfect if lyrics to your favorite song are stuck in your head and need some help expressing them!
Tik Tok has something for everyone with its vast list of trending hashtags including everything from beauty vlogs to music video parodies like “I’m so over it.” Have trouble coming up with ideas? Search one hashtag at random (#dogs) then scroll until they run dry; chances
TikTok has a For You Page that can help you find trending content. If there’s something in particular you want to see, check the “Trending” tab and tap on any individual video for more information about it!
